Chiller Show A Success On and Off the Ice
The on-ice Michael Jackson tribute show Chiller proved to be a huge success in more ways than one following its two day stop in Basingstoke. The 1500 spectators were treated to a show that one delighted audience member described as “Absolutely amazing, the best ice show I’ve seen”, with a hugely talented cast providing two hours of thrilling skating.

Off the ice there was even more success as both the audience and Planet Ice dug deep to raise over £1000 for charity Help For Heroes. Burghfield Army Cadets volunteered their time to hold bucket collections on both evenings, raising more than £400. Planet Ice, who organised the show, donated 10% of their Friday evening show takings to the cause, taking the money raised into four figures.

The show then moved onto Coventry Skydome for a one night Christmas Special. The Show, produced by ICEACT & The Arena Group, showcased some of the best current UK skaters, plus some excellent performances from our European cousins. Jenna McCorkell & Matthew Parr were joined by another Olympic entrant in Kevin Van Der Perren to show people just why they are some of the best skaters in Europe today. This was the last live performance by all three of them prior to there Winter Olympic performances in Vancouver 2010. Other notable skaters were Karly Robertson, Daniel King, Mark Hanretty & Christina Chitwood, plus the outstanding Fiona and Dmitry.

The Shows were produced by Yuri Burieko & Vicky Ogden’s new company ICEACT plus executive producers The Arena Group.

Arena Group spokes person Heath Rhodes commented ‘The Arena Group have been looking to produce an Ice show for a few years now. We have staged Olympians on Ice, plus Dancing Queen in the summer and wanted to give our customers something really special this Christmas. Michael Jackson was the obvious choice, Chiller was the obvious name. It takes a lot of determination to produce a show at this level with the amount of elite skaters we have starring in it but The Arena Group understand the importance of ensuring their Planet Ice brand deliver the best there is in ice entertainment.’

There is a full review of the show in iSKATE Magazine January edition available from all Planet Ice rinks and online at iskatemagazine.com. People may also wish to know that The Arena Group are now talking with Ice Media Productions and ICEACT about producing Chiller in possibly Cardiff for early spring and maybe another venue also.

Heath commented further ‘There is a lot more we can do with a show like Chiller. We felt that the songs and choreography were absolutely perfect but we could make more of the production. We have already spoken with ICEACT and they would be delighted to come back and produce more shows.’ The shows will be advertised soon and a DVD of the show is due for release in early 2010.
